5. Electroplated wires

This category includes metals and alloys coated with a metallic deposit, generally obtained electrolytically. The difference between bimetals lies in the thickness of the deposit. In this case, we're talking about a deposit a few micrometers thick, compared with a few tenths of a millimeter for bimetals.

Tin is the most common metal deposited, but some specific applications call for nickel, silver and even gold.

5.1 Tin-plated copper

Although universally used, its market share is steadily declining due to advances in cable manufacturing.
