4. Conclusion

This article looks at the different bi/tricomponent fibers, how they are manufactured and processed into textiles, and their current applications.

The future looks increasingly to tricomponent shapes, which enable new fiber shapes to be composed.

The development of bi/tricomponent fibers is increasingly focusing on three areas:

  • the development of nanofibers with offshore island shapes, which today reach 9,700 islands in a 20 μm diameter fiber cross-section (figure 22 );

  • development of functionalities (e.g. antibacterial, conductive, flame retardant, etc.) on core/shell shapes with functionalities positioned on the shell;
