5.1 Don't let the SMSST be worn only by the safety manager
Such a system would not work, because it would lose the notion of participation, responsibility and involvement. In other words, an SMSST driven solely by the safety unit loses any management component, which is nonetheless the basis of the approach. It's also important to remember that safety is everybody's business, and that everyone is responsible for their own safety.
