2. What is Lean Management?

Lean is a principle included in Taiichi Ohno's TPS, or Toyota Production System.

Lean Management is a continuous process of identifying and highlighting waste and non-value-added activities. This waste can take many different forms, and can be broken down into different families, which we'll look at later in this sheet.

The three basic principles can be summarized as follows:

  • doing more with less ;

  • produce maximum results with minimum effort (we are in an efficiency logic);

  • dealing with problems in the field (from the Japanese "Gemba").
