4. What kind of waste do you encounter?

The fight against waste is undoubtedly one of the most important aspects of the Lean Management approach. Grouped into eight families, they are, once identified, sources of significant savings and reduction of non-value-added activities:

  • waste due to overproduction: producing more than the customer requires, manufacturing useless and/or unused indicators, producing in advance (i.e. without an order);

  • wastage due to waiting times: inactive operator in front of running production equipment, slowed down production rate, waiting time between two operations... ;

  • transport-related waste: movement of products of no value to the customer, transfers to different storage areas, large-scale movement of patients within a health-care center, etc. ;

  • waste...
