Sworn

One who has solemnly undertaken to fulfill the duties attached to his mission; the oath confers the authority to draw up reports.

Contradictory

Procedure whereby interested parties must be given the opportunity to make written or oral observations prior to the administration's decision.

Contravention

The least serious offence, punishable by a fine of up to 1,500 euros; contraventions are determined and defined by regulation (decree, order).

Crime

The most serious offence, punishable by a prison sentence ranging from ten years to life imprisonment (fines of up to 75,000 euros for legal entities); contraventions are determined and defined by law.
