2.1 Occupational health and safety policy – Chapter 4.2 of OHSAS 18001

An occupational health and safety policy must be defined and validated by management at the highest level. The policy is a document that sets out management's commitment to all health and safety issues.

  • It defines the organization's position with regard to the prevention of personal injury and damage to health.

  • It must include a commitment to continuous improvement and to meeting legal and other requirements.

  • It must be adapted to the organization's context.

  • It provides a framework for defining the organization's health and safety objectives.
