3. Redox treatments

These reactions are used to modify the state of certain metals (divalent iron, hexavalent chromium, etc.) or certain sulfur and cyanide compounds in order to :

  • or to render them insoluble and eliminate them by precipitation;

  • or transform them into still-soluble, but non-toxic compounds.

3.1 Main oxidation techniques

Physical oxidation (with air or oxygen) and chemical oxidation can be carried out using :
