There are three main grading regimes, from the least severe to the most severe:

• D for facilities subject to declaration and, within this regime, DC for facilities subject to declaration and periodic inspection;

• E for facilities subject to registration ;

• A for facilities subject to environmental authorization and, within this regime, Seveso for the most dangerous facilities.
