3. When to use non-quantified accident databases?
These databases are not of interest for assessing probabilities of occurrence, as they do not report quantified data. They do, however, help to identify the nature of the feared events likely to occur at a facility, as they list incidents/accidents that have already occurred.
As part of the ESD process, these databases can be used to carry out an accident analysis, with the aim of identifying accidents that have already occurred in the same sector of activity, or in sectors involving products and/or processes similar to those studied.
