1. Analyze general dependencies between projects

Dependencies arise, for example, when projects belong to the same program, or when projects draw on the same resources. The question then arises as to which projects have priority, and what influence one project has on another in terms of costs, deadlines and quality. It is therefore important to understand the number and nature of dependencies, so that the project manager and project office can take the best possible action to avoid problems caused by project dependencies.

Understanding the general dependencies between projects is important for several types of player:

  • management, who want to implement their strategy effectively;

  • the project office, whose mission is to ensure the efficient use of project resources;
