2. What are the prerequisites for calculating earned value?

Three key cost performance measures are required for earned value analysis:

  • the actual cost of work performed at time T (CRTE) ;

  • the budgeted cost of work performed at time T (CBTE), also known as the earned value;

  • budgeted cost of planned work (CBTP).

2.1 Actual cost of work performed (CRTE)

At a given point T in the project, a set of tasks has been fully or partially completed. The actual cost of the tasks, often higher than planned, is now known. It is then possible to know the cost incurred or the Actual Cost of Work Performed (ACWP).
