7. Our advice

The expression of functions is standardized by AFNOR: a function consists of a verb or verbal group characterizing the action, and complements representing the elements of the external environment concerned by the function. The subject of the sentence does not appear, but always refers to the product.

  • The passive form should be avoided.

  • The negative form should be avoided.

  • The formulation of the function must be independent of the solutions likely to realize it.

  • The wording should be as concise and clear as possible.
