Delphine Mathilde COSME: Technical consultant, expert in materials assembly (plastics and metallurgy)
INTRODUCTION
Functional analysis (FA) is a simple tool that anyone can use. It is based on the principle that a system is only as good as the services it provides for the user. It is used to draw up functional specifications (CdCF).
This approach is suitable for any product, complete system or subsystem that needs to be improved or designed. We have limited this sheet to the "redesign" of an existing product.
Functional analysis (FA) is the basis for undertaking value analysis (VA), risk management, technical drawings or any other study concerning a product or system.
Our data sheets are designed for small and medium-sized companies, where resources are often limited and engineers are multi-disciplinary. Using concrete examples, you can draw up your own functional analysis (FA).
Preparatory investigative work is essential. You may or may not be able to delegate this work, and you may do it alone or in a group; it all depends on your environment. You may also wish to enlist the help of a consultant. He or she can save you precious time and guide you through the uncertainty.
Gather vital information, set up a working group and answer these fundamental questions:
Who are the players in my company? What roles will they play?
Who should be included in the working group?
Which product to analyze? What does it represent in the market, for the company?
What are the benefits of functional analysis (FA)?
What are the possible implications for other projects?
