 INTRODUCTION

A mind map is a tree-like representation of a central theme. It's a way of structuring ideas by associating keywords and images. It then becomes an excellent way of sharing ideas and problems you may encounter during the course of a project.

Mind maps are built on principles found in the human brain. The human brain uses mechanisms such as association, imagination, attribution and prioritization.

These mechanisms come into play when constructing and using a mind map. This explains why it is so useful for project managers to use this type of tool in their day-to-day work. These maps can be used for a variety of purposes: reporting, problem-solving, task lists, risk management...

The project manager benefits from learning how to use mind maps. He'll gain greater understanding and clarity when working with his team, the customer, the sponsor and other stakeholders.

In summary, the mind map offers the following advantages:

  • it gives a global vision;

  • representation as axes or branches facilitates reading choices;

  • different and multiple data are organized and structured ;

  • the clarity of a map makes it easier to share and communicate;

  • the mind map stimulates association, links and memorization;

  • it has a unifying function, since a map can be created by several people.
