1.1 What is a biopolymer?
The classification of biopolymers depends on their origin:
bio-sourced" polymers of renewable origin;
polymers of non-renewable origin, known as "petro-sourced".
Biodegradable polymers can be obtained from both categories. For example, there are biodegradable "petro-sourced" polymers.
However, this definition may vary from one trade to another. In the scientific community, the notion of biopolymers may be "restricted" to the family with a renewable origin.
