In the 1990s, an American group, the Standish Group, began compiling a report highlighting the success and failure rates of IT projects worldwide. In 2002, the report showed that 2/3 of the functions of an information system were rarely or never used, and that only 1/5 of the functions were always or often used by the business. In other words, 2/3 of the functions that required time and money created no value for the company.
