5. Our advice

Distinguish between process optimization and laboratory-type development. Researchers" are often contrasted with "manufacturers".

We often attribute exaggerated and caricatured virtues and faults to both:

  • the former would be inventive and innovative, but sometimes inconsistent!

  • the latter are pragmatic and realistic, but lack any innovative character, and are even hostile to any change or progress.

So, if you're the sole decision-maker, you need to reconcile the qualities of both profiles, showing yourself to be both innovative and realistic, and, if you're only one or the other, recognizing that your counterpart has his or her own priorities and that it's better to evolve together than in constant confrontation.
