3. Stabilizing production
The next question is when to stop. The answer is both self-evident and in need of clarification, for while it's easy to answer: "when, on any side where you try to operate variations, you get worse results", some will want to keep exploring and further reduce the amplitudes of the variations applied, to determine the truly optimum point of the process.
We might as well say, at this point, that the sometimes somewhat playful nature of the method should not obscure the fact that we are dealing with a manufacturing process, which must, almost by definition, be "robust", i.e. able to withstand hazards without degrading the result, and that, as already mentioned, differences in parameter settings are at the level of hazards.
