5. Mistakes to avoid
5.1 Don't confuse PMO with "handyman".
A common mistake is not to make use of the PMO's real skills, due to a lack of understanding of the PMO's mission and business. The PMO is then considered capable of carrying out all kinds of tasks in all professions. These tasks – indispensable but considered low-tech – often revolve around secretarial and housekeeping duties. Sometimes, however, the activities entrusted to the PMO are much more interesting, and thus attract the support of the PMO itself. In all cases, however, the PMO finds itself at a disadvantage, and its misused skills do not enable it to bring its real added value to project management. We must therefore remain vigilant in keeping the PMO within its field of competence.
