2. External analysis

We now need to analyze the company or organization's environment.

The external environment will enable the company to understand trends and measure changes. Competition will influence the organization, providing opportunities that the company can exploit, or threats against which it must guard.

As with risk and opportunity management in project management, threats are to be considered as negative trends, and opportunities as positive trends.
