5.1 FreeMind/Freeplane

FreeMind is an open-source program with advanced features such as the ability to use LaTeX. However, it is still evolving in the free software world: Freeplane is its improved successor.

Its strengths are :

  • free of charge ;

  • a powerful filter system.

By visualizing content, users can gain a better understanding of the data they are working with.

Freeplane then lets you switch to another mind mapping tool. It stores its maps in XML format, a format read by most commercial software.
