1. Distinguish between data and databases

The notion of data is not defined at Code de la propriété intellectuelle . The arrêté du 22 décembre 1981 sur l'enrichissement de la langue française defines it as a "representation of information in a conventional form intended to facilitate its processing".

When several pieces of data are collected and assembled into an organized whole, enabling them to be consulted, we speak of a database.
