Are trend boards a tool for innovation?

Yes, because the process of trend analysis is modelled on the cognitive processes of designers, who seek out analogical sources of inspiration in a wide variety of sectors, and then reuse them in part to create new concepts. It is this shift between different sectors that is superimposed on the general pattern of creativity, which is as follows: reference sector → problem solving in analogy sector → return to reference sector .
