5. Managing intellectual property

An IP right has two facets:

• it allows you to occupy the land by making your ownership official (defensive and dissuasive aspect);

• it enables you to challenge the unauthorized use of your property (offensive aspect).

In other words, this monopoly allows you to :

• penetrate new economic markets;

• consolidate your position in a market where you are already present;

• block competitors in a market before the courts if necessary.
