4. Anticipating costs

The utility certificate application is best drafted by an industrial property attorney. He or she has the technical and legal training to carry out this task. The cost of this service varies according to the technical field and the complexity of the invention. The service is generally charged by the hour, but is subject to a pre-established fixed price. You can envisage a budget of between 3,000 and 6,000 euros excluding taxes for the drafting of the utility certificate application.

The filing of a utility certificate is subject to a certain number of fees or royalties from INPI. A filing fee must be paid. In 2021, this was 36 euros for a paper application and 26 euros for an online application.

If INPI agrees to issue the certificate, an issue fee must be added (86 euros in 2021).
