7. Bridging the gap between patent and utility certificate

7.1 Gateway 1: converting utility certificate applications into patent applications

A utility certificate application filed on or after January 11, 2020 can be converted into a patent application up to the technical preparations for publication – approximately 16 months after filing (possible since the adoption of loi PACTE ). This conversion must be accompanied by payment of a search fee, and will give rise to a prior art search report.
