4. IGRT tools

4.1 Contentions

The aim of restraint is to define a reliable and reproducible position (limiting systematic or random errors linked to positioning). A restraint is used as soon as the dosimetric scanner is placed in the treatment position. A restraint must constrain while ensuring patient comfort. It does not interfere with the simulation and treatment stages (CT ring diameter, no high atomic number materials, etc.). It maintains its integrity throughout treatment, is easy to use and clean, is inexpensive, minimizes build-up effects (where electron balance is not achieved) and beam attenuation. If the restraint devices are cumbersome, storage arrangements must be provided, indexed to the table (CT and treatment) and identified (especially if they are personalized, bar-coded, RF...)....
