6. Strategies for correcting repositioning errors with IGRT

Two correction strategies (online and offline) are used to assess patient position and conformity of beam position or dose distribution.

6.1 Random and systematic (repeated) errors

An error is systematic if it is repeated identically at each session (e.g. error during planning scan, planning or data transfer). An error is random when, from one measurement to the next, the value obtained may be over- or under-estimated in relation to the actual value; it is therefore unpredictable.
