2.1 Description of the Production System
With two components—a viral vector on the one hand and a cell line on the other—this protein bioproduction system occupies a unique position among existing systems. The virus is engineered independently and carries the gene(s) to be expressed, while the cell lines are used both to prepare and amplify the viruses and during the bioreactor production stage.
This setup simplifies the management of cell banks, which can be shared across all production runs. However, the viral component requires additional steps for stock preparation and the optimization of infection parameters, which can vary from one protein to another.
