3. Characteristics of gel-type substrates

3.1 Functionalization rate

Functionalization rate or "loading" is an important parameter. It determines the number of functionalized benzene nuclei relative to the total number of aromatic nuclei in the polymer. For example, in the case of Merrifield resins (figure 2 ), this parameter is expressed by the mass percentage of chlorine (%Cl) or by the number of milliequivalents of chlorine per gram of resin (n Cl ). The correspondence between these different units is shown in table 1 .
