The worldwide railway station revival

Over the past three decades, this movement has spread across the globe, and the architecture of new or heavily restructured stations everywhere is helping to enhance the image of towns and regions, while at the same time rehabilitating the train in society's imagination.

In Europe, we could mention

• the restructuring of the Montparnasse station in 1990, which transformed a functionalist 1970s building in the heart of Paris into a "Porte Océane" for vacation destinations (architects: SNCF Atelier d'Architecture/J.-M. Duthilleul, É. Tricaud, M. Maillard, J.-P. Savarieau, F. Pradillon);

• the construction of Seville Santa Justa station in 1991 to accommodate the AVE (high-speed train) and the Universal Exhibition (architects: A.C. Villalon & A.O. Garcia);
