5. Limits and pitfalls of logistics sizing

First of all, it's not possible to predict everything in a system that's not yet up and running. If we assume that the land and the building have not yet been found, some of the assumptions initially made may turn out to be far removed from future reality.

Sizing is based on long-term forecasts of activity by flow. If trends are not subsequently confirmed to the extent that the choice of structuring elements is called into question, the study has to be repeated, with more constraints than initially envisaged.

Assumptions are crucial to the success of the study, and each of them must be validated by an expert: trade, equipment supplier, automation, etc., or measured if the system or activity exists, or estimated using methods such as SMB2. Assumptions may turn out to be correct for one type of equipment and wrong for others.
