2.1 What does defining the scope of ISO 9001 mean for the company?

The ISO 9001 scope defines the "playing field" of the standard and sets the limits of its application, delimiting the legitimate scope of the standard's demands on companies. Indeed, ISO 9001 specifies requirements which may be perceived by company users as external intrusions or interference.

To be acceptable, these requirements must have an indisputable and unchallenged purpose and scope.

ISO 9001 therefore derives its legitimacy from its focus on the two indisputable aspects of quality: the conformity of products and services to applicable requirements, and customer satisfaction.
