5. Amino acids
AA amino acids all have, as their name suggests, a carboxylic acid function and an amine function in their structure, and may differ in the position of the amine function relative to the carboxyl group, or in the grouping present on their side chain, which may also have acid-base properties.
They can therefore be ionized and separated into CZE. However, one of the difficulties in their analysis lies in the fact that very few AAs possess a chromophore group. Most are therefore UV-transparent and non-fluorescent, with the exception of tyrosine, tryptophan and phenylalanine.
While this does not pose a problem for direct MS detection
