4. Observed spectra

In the case of elemental analyses such as those carried out by ICP-OES, the spectra obtained can be relatively simple or complex, depending on the elements present and their concentrations. In a simple, low-concentration matrix, each element present will only generate a limited number of lines that are sufficiently sensitive to be observed. Conversely, if the concentration increases, certain elements, such as Fe, Cr or W, will see a significant increase in the number and intensity of lines emitted.

Ultimately, the presence of high concentrations of such elements in the matrix will lead to a more complex spectrum, resembling a veritable forest. While this is advantageous for the analysis of the element in question, since the choice of lines is extended, it makes the task much more complex for the analysis of elements present in this type of sample in trace amounts...
