5. Conclusion

Today, there are still many steps to be taken, but the broad outlines have already been sketched out.

  • Deposit: full automation of this stage, including sample preparation (weighing, extraction, etc.), is nearing completion.

  • Adsorbent phases: a great deal of work remains to be done on compatibility with the eluting phases, the structure of the porous medium, and the presence of additives in the adsorbent layer. There is no doubt that new technologies will bring new generations of plates to market: thinner layers are one of the most realistic approaches.

  • Development: multi-layer analysis in forced flow offers the most interesting prospects for development.
