2. Potentiometric titrations
2.1 General
Titration involves measuring the concentration of a species in an unknown solution, by means of a chemical reaction. When the instrumental method used to monitor the progress of the reaction is a potential measurement, potentiometric titration is performed.
Note: Dosage and titration are often used synonymously. This is not the case. In dosing, the solution to be measured undergoes no chemical change during the measurement, which is carried out via a calibration curve. In titration, on the other hand, a reagent is added to the unknown solution, changing its composition.
