7. Conclusion

Still widely used in laboratories and industry, molecular absorption spectrophotometry has benefited from technological improvements and powerful computing resources that have expanded its range of applications, especially when combined with near-infrared technology, which is often offered as an option in commercial spectrophotometers. The near-infrared range is the range of choice for the food industry, petrochemicals, etc.

This is a well-documented technique with numerous publications from manufacturers, universities, and organizations, available in particular on the Internet. Performance verification is easy, with certified methods and reference materials. It is fairly simple to implement – except for sample preparation in some cases! – and does not require any special equipment. Spectrophotometers are reasonably priced to purchase and operate.
