9. Calculation example

The example below shows how to use the software proposed with this article; the calculations performed by the machine are not developed.

Consider the case study of a pipe with a diameter of 0.1 m, through which water is flowing at a temperature of 20°C, with a density of 998.23 kg · m -3 and a viscosity of 1 centipoise (data taken from [6], which may differ slightly depending on the source), at a pressure of 2 bar absolute. A maximum flow rate of 0.03 m 3 /s is requested.

The simplest solution is the orifice plate. In the "primary element" line presented in the program, we therefore choose a diaphragm with pressure taps at the flange. The "materials" will - in all likelihood - be ordinary steel for the pipe, but stainless steel for the primary element,...
