6. Acoustic measurements in water

Model simulation of noise sources is difficult, especially if cavitation is involved. What's more, free-field simulation using anechoic walls located several wavelengths from the sources is impossible in a hydrodynamic tunnel. Ship noise must therefore be characterized at sea. It is necessary to obtain the noise spectrum, the acoustic pressure or intensity at a known distance, the directivity and to locate the source on the ship.

6.1 Spot measurements

These are measurements taken with one or more hydrophones, whose signals are analyzed independently.
