6. Conclusion

Computational aeroacoustics (CAA) is a fast-growing discipline for predicting sound radiation from vehicles or compressors, for example, thanks to advances in calculation algorithms and, above all, to the meteoric rise in computer memory and power. It is closely linked to Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), which solves the same equations and provides data on sound sources. However, AAC has its own specific features, due to the characteristics of acoustic waves and their propagation.

Several consequences emerge from the overview we have just given:

  • there is no universal calculation, but rather a whole arsenal of methods, each with its own area of validity;

  • algorithms and computers can't yet handle every situation;
