The law applicable to robotic design

The Machinery Directive, transposed into French law in the Code du Travail, has a dense and complex architecture, and not all robotics manufacturers understand it, perhaps because the requirements have not been simplified. In fact, it was designed primarily for health and safety at work, as the introductory recitals demonstrate: "The machinery sector is an important part of the mechanical engineering sector, and is one of the industrial cores of the Community economy. The social cost of the large number of accidents caused directly by the use of machinery can be reduced by integrating safety into the design and construction of the machinery itself, and by proper installation and maintenance".
