Overview
ABSTRACT
Regulations defining the food compatibility of materials are based on the principle of inertia of the material and the methods implemented for its control. It outlines the suitability criteria properties required of the food contact materials. In this article, European regulatory information is discussed followed by a more detailed explication of French regulations. The applicable texts and requirements for all types of material (wood, metal, ceramics, rubber ...) are then listed in relation to, among others, the undesirable elements content and specific or global migration. Finally, more restrictive regulations specific to certain countries such as Germany, Sweden and Finland are reviewed.
