4. Coordinating regulatory measures and collective initiatives

Those involved in the food industry widely share the view that traceability is an integral part of quality management systems. Consequently, it should not be approached as a company product on which marketing investments can be made. On the other hand, traceability systems or tools can, if not must, form part of the system under consideration as part of the quality assurance of production sites.

In addition, industry players believe that public authorities should regulate the general principles of traceability, rather than the practicalities of implementation. This last aspect of the question refers to the freedom of choice of producers to select the system best suited to the particularities of the sectors to be traced, and to the size of the companies involved. The industry is therefore committed to ensuring that the technical aspects of traceability are considered...
