2. General architecture of ITS systems

The functions to be performed are interconnected at various levels (technical, legal, economic, organizational, etc.). These links are the subject of standards, regulations, contracts and agreements of all kinds, which are difficult to describe. The development of ITS has been accompanied by work on the "architecture" (people with an IT culture say "urbanization") of systems, to identify the players, their roles and the links between the functions they perform. The following description is inspired by the French project ACTIF , which supports the design of interoperable intelligent transport systems in France.
