5.1 The question of warehouses

Warehouses are "enclosed places where goods are concentrated and/or broken down, with or without storage" (French Ministry of Ecology). The French Urban Planning Code, since an order dated March 22, 2023, specifies in its article that warehouses are "constructions intended for logistics, storage or warehousing of goods without a sales area, permanent points for delivery or delivery and collection of retail purchases ordered by telematic means, as well as premises housing data centers".

These are the places where logistics take place. Goods and materials must pass through one or more warehouses to be grouped/ungrouped, stored, prepared, packed, delivered or shipped. Today, the old term "warehouse" covers a very diverse population...
