In the case of soils that are “naturally” nutrient-poor (lacking in fertilizers and organic matter)—comparable to certain “natural” soils found in dunes, acidic heathlands, limestone slopes, etc.— the goal is to create or support the establishment of new vegetation communities and habitats in these so-called “primary” areas (where bedrock or parent material is exposed), as seen in mine tailings and quarry sites; these habitats may, in some cases, differ significantly from those present in their original state, especially when surface materials have been stripped away.
