Overview

ABSTRACT

The current consumption modes have led to an increasing production of waste to be treated. In the case of toxic liquid organic waste, the hydrothermal oxidation process uses supercritical water in order to obtain extremely high destruction rates, by guaranteeing the perfect confinement of the reaction. The results are very promising and the effluents at the end of the process are directly compatible with the environment. However, development efforts must still be made in order to ensure a smooth operation with waste containing a high concentration of halides.

 INTRODUCTION

Current consumption patterns are leading to an increasing volume of waste requiring treatment, some of which is highly toxic or hazardous.

In the case of toxic liquid organic waste, a new process called “hydrothermal oxidation” uses supercritical water to achieve very high destruction rates while ensuring complete containment of the reaction.
