3.1 Administrative penalties

In the case of classified installations, there are several administrative sanctions (Article L. 171-8 of the Code de l’environnement ), which may be implemented alternatively or successively by the Prefect, after a formal notice has remained unsuccessful:

• The deposit of a sum of money in the hands of the public accountant, i.e. the official within the tax department responsible for collecting taxes and other revenues. This sum will be returned to the operator as and when the prescribed measures are carried out.
